- Where was Irish Coffee invented, and where can you find it in OC? A cup of coffee with sugar and alcohol is often called Irish Coffee. The coffee beverage with a kick can be enjoyed year-round, and not just on St. Patrick’s Day. So where did Irish Coffee come from? The story is that Joe Sheridan, a chef at an airport restaurant in Ireland, invented Irish Coffee 'to keep customers from freezing.' Some say it was created in 1938. Others say 1943. The story is that Irish Coffee made its way to America in 1952 when a bartender at the Buena Vista Cafe mixed it for American drinkers. Today, Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista Cafe is a mixture of Tullamore Dew whisky, coffee, sugar cubes and heavy cream. You can read the full story here: (OC Register)
