Here are the top stories today in Orange County:

  1. Surf City would like to host the surfing competition for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The international summer sports events will take place from July 21 to Aug. 6 in 2028. Huntington Beach already hosts major surfing competitions, officials told the Business Journal. In September, the ISA World Surfing Games, which serves as the first event for Olympic surfing qualification, will be at Huntington Beach, Huntington Beach officials said. Anaheim’s Honda Center has already been tapped to host the volleyball games. (Orange County Business Journal)
  2. Angels interim manager Phil Nevin was suspended for 10 games after a brawl on the field during the second inning of Sunday's game with the Seattle Mariners. That didn't stop the Angels from rallying on Monday for a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox. Go, Angels! (Orange County Patch)
  3. Before you head out the door, be sure to check out Patch's daily traffic report, covering everything from Los Angeles and Orange County to San Diego. If you missed the traffic report on Tuesday, June 28 there were three freeway fires, and a car was pulled back onto the road after plunging not a patch of poison oak! One fire was in Orange County at 5:37 a.m. on the off-ramp on I-5 South near Euclid Street. The two other fires were in Los Angeles County at 6:12 a.m. on I-605 North, near Firestone Boulevard; and at 6 a.m., at I-5 south at Tuxford Street. In San Diego County at 6:53 a.m., at 1455 Rice Canyon Road, a vehicle "went over the side of the road and plunged poison oak." Crews had to use cables to pull the car up the embankment. (Orange County Patch)
  4. After months of "upheaval," the O.C. Green Power Agency is considering firing the CEO and the chief legal counsel. The board of directors is discussing firing them behind closed doors on Wednesday. CEO Brian Probolsky has been embroiled in a "month of chaos" at the agency after multiple members approved an audit and a grand jury report last week saying the agency has a "lack of transparency" and "poor leadership." Probolksy filed a whistleblower lawsuit against board members who are protesting his leadership. (Voice of OC)
