Here are the top stories today in Orange County:
- Thunderstorms are possible in Orange County as sweltering heat settles over large areas of Southern California. Meteorologists warn that areas of Orange County may reach triple-digit numbers over the next few days. The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory from 10 a.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday for "inland Orange County, the mountains and the deserts." Officials say that temperatures are expected to soar above 100 degrees on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, "creating life-threatening conditions." (Orange County Patch)
- The controversial Supreme Court abortion ruling has drawn mixed reactions throughout Orange County, generally along party lines. Many Republicans are praising the decision saying the question of abortion access 'is left up to each state 'where it belongs," while many democrats said the ruling "is dangerous" and "threatens the lives of women" who will continue to seek abortions without the proper healthcare they deserve. UC Irvine political science and law professor Tony Smith told City News Service, that juices like Thomas are "originalists," which means "unless it is spelled out explicitly in the Constitution, the high court should not try to interpret what the founders intended." (Orange County Patch)
- Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels is angry about a recent Mariners pitch that almost hit his head. It added anger to frustration after the Angels had a 5-3 loss to the Mariners on Saturday night. The pitch, from Mariners closer Erik Swanson, "sailed past Trout’s head." In the Angels’ clubhouse 20 minutes later, Trout was still not happy. He said, “If you’re going to hit me, hit me in the ribs.. Don’t hit me in the head.” (O.C. Register)
