Damaged Pacifica Pier Closes For At Least 3 Weeks

The city said high tides and large waves damaged sections of the pier late last month, requiring engineers to fully evaluate the structure.

PACIFICA, CA — The Pacifica Pier will remain closed for at least three weeks after it was pummeled by high rides and breaking waves during recent storms, the city announced this week.

In a news release Thursday, officials said the structure's west-facing deck and concrete railing were damaged on Dec. 28. Public Works engineers evaluated the damage and determined it would be unsafe for users and visitors to access the pier until a full structural assessment could be completed.

The city expects that assessment, along with an analysis and staff review, will take until Jan. 25, when engineers will decide whether the pier can be reopened.
