PACIFICA, CA — San Mateo County Parks is inviting neighbors to volunteer for the next habitat restoration project, which is slated to begin Saturday morning at San Pedro Valley Park in Pacifica.

Friends of San Pedro Valley will kick off the event at 10 a.m. at the visitor center parking lot, before sending teams off to tackle invasive plants that can harm native flowers. Organizers recommend participants pack reliable shoes, hats and sunscreen, plus pants that can get a little dirty.

Volunteer events are open to all ages, but participants under 18 must be registered by a parent or guardian, and children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Those who can't make it to Saturday's event will have another opportunity to help out early next month. San Mateo County Parks is scheduled to host a restoration gathering at Tunitas Creek Beach, where work will soon begin on the county's newest coastal beach park.

Residents can find all upcoming volunteer opportunities and register to participate on the county's website.
