Vigilant Pacifica Neighbors Foil Would-Be Burglary

Pacifica police are investigating the interrupted residential burglary and released images of the suspect.

PACIFICA, CA — Pacifica police are looking for a man who they say was caught breaking into a local home, but stopped thanks to some vigilant neighbors who called for help.

It happened on Friday around 8:50 a.m. in the 200 block of Seaside Drive, according to a news release. Someone called to report a residential burglary in progress.

"A neighbor called 9-1-1 when she noticed a subject she did not recognize enter the rear yard of a residence...," the news release said. "Another neighbor had gone to investigate and found a subject hiding inside an in-law unit to the rear of the residence."

The neighbor confronted the man, and the suspect fled the area in a white GMC pickup truck marked as a U-Haul rental and with an Arizona license plate numbered AJ17372, police said. That neighbor also snapped some photos of the suspect and vehicle, which are attached to this article.

Police said that when they got to the scene, they "found signs of forced entry into the residence." It wasn't immediately clear if the man stole anything.

The suspect is described as a heavy set white man in his 30s and wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans. He had numerous tattoos on his arms and face, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Pacifica Police Department at (650) 738-7314.

"We remind community members to be vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police department- If you see something, say something," police said. "We discourage community members from taking any action that could place them in harm’s way."
