Voted Young Man of The Year in Pacifica, Arthur Lee Riewerts Dies at 78

Some of the people with ties to Pacifica who passed away recently.

Arthur Lee Riewerts started his career as a teenager working in old fashioned butcher shops, working his way up to managing shops in the Bay Area. He served in the National Guard, was on the School Board in Pacifica and was voted Young Man Of The Year in Pacifica. He later started a second career as an Interior Decorator. Lee and his wife of 29 years, Cathy Lee Henkel Riewerts, moved to Lincoln Hills in 2002 and during that time became active in bowling and was also an avid golfer. He passed away suddenly on November 19, 2013 in Clear Lake at the age of 78.

Mary Louise Chavez was born in San Francisco in 1927. A graduate of St. Vincent's High School in San Francisco, Mary Louise met her future husband, Antonio (Tony), soon after he moved into the South Park neighborhood of San Francisco where Mary Louise and her family lived. They soon married and started their family. In 1954 with their two young sons they moved to Pedro Valley in Pacifica where they bought a new home on Linda Mar Blvd. The family expanded over the years, as another son and two daughters were born. Mary Louise was active in St. Peter's Church, the schools her children attended and Cub Scouts. She attended Skyline College and went on to San Francisco State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Education. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1979.  She became a bilingual teacher at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Daly City for 10 years before retiring with her husband. In her retirement she and Tony traveled within the United States and to Europe and South America. She was also an exceptionally gifted artist. She is survived by her husband and eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She passed away peacefully at her home in Pacifica on November 23, 2013, at the age of 86.
