Book Turned Musical 'Piggy Nation' Preaches Good Manners

Patch went behind the scenes of "Piggy Nation" to find our manners.

What started out as a simple gesture to politely point out rude behavior in others quickly became a children's book and then a play. Musician, turned childrens book author, turned playwright Richard Rosser got the idea for a book about manners while issuing fake citations to dog walkers who had neglected their (ahem) duties.

Rosser's book, Piggy Nation, is set in a fantastical Pacific Palisades where all its inhabitants are animals. The book follows a day in the life of Hank, a piggy police officer who takes his son Sammy to work with him. Hank points out the other animals' bad habits to teach sammy about good manners.

Piggy Nation, the musical, preaches "You don't have to be pig to be a piggy," and is intended to be both comical and educational — a way for parents to engage their kids about what it means to be polite. Sunday marked closing weekend at .
