PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — A woman out hiking in a remote area near Pacific Palisades was rescued by helicopter Thursday afternoon after suffering from some sort of heat-related illness, officials tell Patch.

The call for help came in at 2:29 p.m., and firefighter-paramedics responded to 510 Los Liones Drive, near the Los Liones Trail soon after.

LAFD successfully transported the hiker back to the street, but the hiker declined to be taken to the hospital via ambulance, according to Nicholas Prange.

LAFD did not identify the woman and no other information was immediately available. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in the area were about 76 degrees with a humidity of 61%.

The incident occured only a day after Orange County officials warned Southland residents to be more prepared when hiking. Sheriff Don Barnes said the department is seeing 225% more rescue calls than usual, straining resources during a crucial time with wildfires raging across the state.

"Just the other day on the San Juan Trail, three hikers said they were lost and stranded," said Dan Dufrene, Orange County Fire Department Captain. "Turns out all they needed was water... To bring water to a hiker who didn't prepare is definitely something that could have been avoided."
