Passenger Brings Measles Through LAX

LOS ANGELES, CA — A traveler with infectious measles passed through Los Angeles International Airport in February, county health officials said Tuesday as they urged anyone who might have been exposed to watch for symptoms of the illness.

According to the county Department of Public Health, an infected passenger arrived at the LAX Tom Bradley International Terminal, gate 133, at 9 a.m. Feb. 21 aboard China Eastern flight 583. The passenger had a layover at Delta Air Lines gate 32 in Terminal 3, eventually leaving aboard flight DL 5705.

People who were on the same flights as the passenger are being notified separately, but county health officials said anyone who was in TBIT Terminal B and Delta Terminal 3 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Feb. 21 could be at risk of developing measles -- "especially those with weakened immune systems or persons who may not have been immunized against measles, may be at risk of developing measles and should watch for symptoms of the illness."

Health officials said common symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash. Anyone who experiences such symptoms was urged to contact their doctor. People who have not developed any symptoms by Thursday will no longer be considered at risk, according to the county.
