4 Arrested In RivCo Retail Theft Sting
In a crackdown on retail theft, deputies arrested a group of people on suspicion of such crimes.

PERRIS, CA — Four men from Perris were arrested on Thursday after Riverside County Sheriff's deputies conducted a retail theft operation.
Deputies pursued the theft sting on Thursday in the 3100 block of Case Road, according to Sgt. David Ruiz.
"The operation was designed to proactively address retail theft and ensure the safety and well-being of both businesses and shoppers in the area," Ruiz said.

During the operation, police say they saw several people stealing merchandise. The following suspects were arrested:
- Miguel Corona, 40-year-old resident of Perris, arrested for petty theft with priors.
- Edward Bryant, 58-year-old resident of Perris, arrested for probation violation and petty theft.
- Edgar Reyes, 38-year-old resident of Perris, arrested for grand theft.
- Michael Fuente, 43-year-old resident of Perris, arrested for burglary.
"This effort highlights the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and the city of Perris’ continued commitment to addressing theft-related crimes that negatively impact our local businesses and community," Ruiz said.

According to the department, this retail theft operation was made possible by Prop. 36, the state's newest controversial tough-on-crime law, which made shoplifting a felony for repeat offenders and increased penalties for some drug charges, including those involving fentanyl.
"Operations like this one are critical in addressing repeat offenders and deterring organized retail crime, while also working with the framework of existing laws to promote both accountability and rehabilitation where appropriate," Ruiz said.
