86-Year-Old Killed In RivCo Crash That Hospitalized Another Driver

A Cathedral City man who died in the crash has been identified by authorities.

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — An 86-year-old man was pronounced dead Thursday following a two-vehicle collision in Cathedral City that hospitalized another driver on Wednesday, authorities said.

At 4:20 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Date Palm Drive and Tachevah Drive. There, they found two vehicles with significant damage, Sgt. Dan Anes of the Cathedral City Police Department told Patch.

Both drivers where taken drivers to Desert Regional Medical Center for complaints of pain. But on Thursday, the 86-year-old died of his injuries sustained in the crash, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office.

The man was identified as Raymond Johnson of Cathedral City.

The other driver remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, Anes told Patch.

Though multiple people stopped to lend a hand after the crash, police said they haven't found anyone who actually witnessed the incident.
