PALM SPRINGS, CA — A new affordable housing community will celebrate its grand opening later this month in Palm Springs.

Monarch Apartment Homes, developed by the nonprofit Community Housing Opportunities Corporation, will have a ribbon-cutting on Feb. 22.

The 60-unit complex is situated on a 3.62-acre site at the corner of North Indian Canyon and San Rafael Drive. The $36 million project features one-, two- and three-bedroom rental units targeting people who earn 30-60% of the area's median income.

Monarch residents are now stepping into their new homes two years after the development's official groundbreaking. In December, Monarch received its first occupancy permits and keys were given to initial residents shortly thereafter.

A wait list closed last summer for potential renters.
