DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA — A skateboarder in Desert Hot Springs was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday evening, as authorities continued their investigation Monday.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department released the identity of Juan Mejia Calvillo Jr. of Desert Hot Springs as the victim in the collision at the scene after notifying the next of kin.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday, a white Chevrolet Camaro was traveling southbound on Mountain View Road, north of Brunn Lane, at an unconfirmed speed. The Chevrolet passed a slower-moving vehicle against solid double yellow lines when it hit the skateboarder, who was seated and heading downhill in the middle of the roadway.

Calvillo was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said, and the Chevrolet sustained front-end damage from the incident.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
