CSUSB Palm Desert Campus to Host Memorial Day Observance
The Veterans Success Center at Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus will pay tribute to fallen service members on Friday, May 26.
From the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus: In observance of Memorial Day, the Veterans Success Center at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus will pay tribute to fallen service members on Friday, May 26, on the front patio of the campus’s Palm Desert Health Sciences Building at 3 p.m.
The program will include a welcome by Jack P. Macfarlane, Senior Chief, U.S. Navy (Ret.) and director of campus operations at the Palm Desert Campus, a presentation of colors by the Desert Hot Springs High School Marine Corps JROTC, followed by invocation.
Charles Carter, U.S. Army veteran, Palm Desert Campus student, military historian and author of “Nuclear Birds in the Everglades” will provide the keynote address and moment of reflection.

The flag folding ceremony will be conducted by the Desert Hot Springs High School Marine Corps JROTC, and a 21-gun salute and the playing of “Taps” will be provided by the American Legion Post 519/Palm Springs. Joel Daniels, a retired United States Marine Corps gunnery sergeant, will play “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes.
Refreshments will be served following the ceremony and tours of the campus’s Veteran’s Success Center will be offered.
