Gas Leak Prompts Evacuations In Palm Springs

No injuries were immediately reported.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A gas leak prompted some road closures in Palm Springs Monday, but no injuries were reported and the leak was eventually capped.

Palm Springs Fire Department crews and gas company officials responded to the leak around 9:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Northwest Cerritos Road, according to the agency. Fire officials issued a warning for people to "avoid the area."

Northwest Cerritos Road was closed as a safety precaution, as well as parts of East Amado Road and East Andreas Road between North Saturmino Drive and Cerritos Drive.

The Palm Springs Fire Department released a statement declaring the gas leak secured and roads reopened at 11:13 a.m.

It was unclear what caused the leak.
