Highway 111 Crash May Have Been an Attempted Suicide, CHP Says

A driver slammed her car into the side of a mountain off Highway 111 in North Palm Springs in what the CHP says may have been a suicide try.

NORTH PALM SPRINGS, CA -- A motorist slammed her car into the side of a mountain Friday morning off Highway 111 in North Palm Springs in what the CHP says is being investigated as a possible suicide attempt.

Just before 11 a.m., an ambulance was called to Highway 111, just south of Overture Drive, where a woman crashed her Toyota sedan into a hillside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said the driver -- who's name, age and city of residence were not released -- is believed to have possibly been attempting suicide.

The unidentified woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where she will undergo a medical and mental evaluation, CHP Deputy Mike Vasquez said.
