Less Than 1,000 Active COVID Cases Reported Among Desert Schools

Three school districts in the Coachella Valley have reported a combined 999 active COVID-19 cases among students and staff.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Three school districts in the Coachella Valley have reported a combined 999 active COVID-19 cases among students and staff.

The Desert Sands Unified School District, Palm Springs Unified and Coachella Valley Unified reported the number of active COVID cases among students and staff on their online case tracker websites Friday.

All three of the districts' trackers are live documents, updated daily.

Once a case is no longer considered active, it is removed from the district's tracker. Cases are added to the dashboards within 24 hours of verification, according to the websites.

According to DSUSD's tracker, 296 students and 61 staff members across 34 schools tested positive for COVID-19 for a total of 357 cases, 379 less than last week's 736.

Shadow Hills High School had 26 active student cases and five active staff cases, the most of any school in the district as of Friday. According to the district, all 34 schools listed on the dashboard had active COVID-19 cases.

The PSUSD online case tracker listed a total of 317 students and 29 staff members across 27 schools that tested positive for COVID-19, a 346-case total. That total number is 230 less than the previous week of 576.

Rancho Mirage High School and Palm Springs high School tied for the most cases of any school in the district as of Friday with 27 total cases among students and staff.

According to the district, all but two of the 27 schools listed on the dashboard have active COVID-19 cases, Two Bunch Palms Elementary School and the Desert Learning Academy.

CVUSD reported 244 student cases and 52 staff cases across the district's 23 campuses totaling 296, a decrease of 46 compared to last week.

Coachella Valley High School was reported by the district to have the most cases, with 36 students and five staff testing positive. According to the district, all 23 schools listed on the dashboard had active COVID-19 cases except for the Coachella Valley Adult School.

DSUSD overall had the most cases. DSUSD returned to class from winter break on Jan. 3, while PSUSD and CVUSD returned from winter break on Jan. 10.

All three districts have their own set of COVID-19 protocols that include wearing masks indoors regardless of vaccination status.
