Deputies responded Saturday night to a "near drowning" of a 16-month-old child in Bermuda Dunes, where family members initiated life-saving measures that were continued by paramedics, a sheriff's sergeant said.

"The child was transported to a local hospital where the child's condition improved," Sgt. Jeronimo Contreras of the Thermal Station said.

Deputies were called out at 7:35 p.m. Nov. 16 to a reported accidental drowning incident in the 78000 block of Bent Canyon Court, Contreras said.
