Tomas Berdych was upset in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open, losing in three sets to Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Berdych came to Indian Wells a winner of 16 of his previous 18 matches, including a runner-up finish to Roger Federer at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship.
"Anything I touched today was basically bad and was wrong," Berdych said after the match. "So really, just to recap it, definitely my worst match that I had this year."
Throughout the match Berdych, the World No. 5 player, was yelling at himself after mishits.
"All the weeks that my game was on top and was ‑‑ really it was keep on winning, I was moving extremely well, which that part I was missing a lot today," Berdych said.
The World No. 5 player described that he did not feel crisp during his warm-up before the match, but did not make excuses.
The loss by the No. 4-seed in Indian Wells throws open his side of the bracket. The No. 12-seeded American John Isner, and No. 8-seed Richard Gasquet were the highest ranked players remaining in Berdych's quarter.
