One person died and another was injured early Wednesday in a vehicle crashed into a tree near Fred Waring Drive and Yellow Sage Drive, according to Cal Fire and coroner's officials.
The crash was reported at 12:39 a.m. Nov. 13 and a contingent of 15 firefighters responded, Jody Hagemann of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.
One occupant of the vehicle perished on scene, Hagemann said. A second occupant sustained moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
Coroner's officials identified the deceased as Francisco Javier Bautista Jr., 24, of Indio, a passenger of the vehicle.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department was investigating the crash.
