RivCo Couple Who Lost Teens To Drunk Driver Set Up 'Wind Phone' In Joshua Tree: Report
After their teenagers died, a couple created a phone booth for others coping with loss.
MORENO VALLEY, CA — In June of 2019, Colin Campbell and Gail Lerner were driving with their two teenagers along Highway 62 in Morongo Valley when a drunk driver crashed into their car, The Washington Post reported.
Their two teens who were seated in the back — Ruby, 17 and 14-year-old Hart — were killed in the crash. The four were on their way to their new home in Joshua Tree.
Earlier this month, on the six-year anniversary of their deaths, the couple installed a disconnected phone both — a "wind phone" — where those who have lost someone can make one-way calls.

The rotary phone booth is set up in Joshua Tree, a place the family loved dearly.
"The last thing we did as a family was pick that house," Campbell told the Post. "It became a grief sanctuary."

Anyone who may be in mourning is welcome to sit down in the "privacy of the vast desert" and called their loved one "via the cosmic connection," Campbell wrote on Instagram.
To access the phone, route to Joshua Tree and park at 7135.
