PALM SPRINGS, CA — It's a hop, skip, and a jump from Palm Springs to Santa Rosa/Sonoma, with more direct flights added to Palm Springs International Airport, that agency announced.

Avelo Airlines has added service to NorCal wine country and Sonoma County from the desert airport, offering an easy way to visit wineries in the central and northern parts of the state.

Executive Director of Aviation at Palm Springs International Airport, Harry Barrett, Jr., discussed the addition of the flights and what it means for travelers from Riverside County.

According to Avelo Airlines, flights are available for under $100 each way, less than a tank of gasoline there and back.

Sonoma is famous for its award-winning restaurants as well as its wineries.

"Avelo Airlines’ extension of service from PSP to Santa Rosa offers the perfect opportunity to escape the desert heat this summer and immerse themselves in the cool charm of Sonoma County," Barrett Jr. said.

The service with Avelo launched two years ago, offering travel to NorCal and Oregon. With more flights, residents can expand their travel opportunities and beat the summer heat at wineries, as well as enjoy the variety of outdoor activities Sonoma County has to offer.

Once there, travelers can either rent cars or Uber or book wine tours, such as Riverside County's Grapeline Wine Tours, which offers service to Napa, Sonoma, and Paso Robles, as well as in Riverside County.

Palm Springs International Airport is set to break records from last year when over 3.2 million passengers passed through its gates. As of February, the airport was forecast to bring over 650,000 travelers through the city.

Barrett Jr. says the airport "eagerly anticipates exceeding expectations in 2024 and striving to ensure an unrivaled experience in air travel.”
