PALM DESERT, CA — The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a dust advisory for parts of Riverside County, including Palm Desert, due to high winds and dry conditions.
A “PM10 Dust Advisory” began at 1:00 a.m. Monday and is in effect through 11:00 p.m. Tuesday. The areas directly impacted are the Coachella Valley, the San Gorgonio Pass and East Riverside County, according to the agency.
The National Weather Service posted a high wind watch for these areas due to a cold low pressure system that is moving through Southern California.

The impact of the dust varies based on winds and rainfall.
“High winds can lift dust and dry soil and lead to poor air quality conditions that are unhealthy for sensitive groups or worse at times,” the air quality district said. “Air quality can vary hour by hour and by location depending on winds and soil conditions.”
