Affordable Housing Project For Seniors To Break Ground In Palm Springs
The project calls for 71 affordable housing units for seniors aged 62 and above.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A groundbreaking ceremony is set this week to celebrate the start of construction on a Palm Springs affordable housing project for seniors.
The groundbreaking for the Aloe Palm Canyon apartments at 1475 N. Palm Canyon Drive takes place at 10 a.m. Thursday. The city, county officials, and the nonprofit developer — West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation — are scheduled to be on hand.
The project calls for 71 affordable housing units for seniors aged 62 and above. Twenty-five units will be permanent supportive housing for seniors experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness "as provided by the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s No Place Like Home Program," according to the city.

As at all WHCHC affordable apartment communities, once Aloe Palm Canyon is built, voluntary supportive services will be available on-site and free of charge to all residents. WHCHC is partnering with DAP Health (formerly Desert AIDS Project) to provide the services, according to the city.
The Riverside County Health Department will also provide specialized case management services to Aloe Palm Canyon residents that focus on support for those with special needs unique to people who experienced homelessness and those with physical and mental health challenges. The services will support residents in the 25 NPLH units.

Designed to honor the neighborhood’s midcentury modern heritage, the Aloe Palm Canyon development will be a two-story structure with desert-friendly landscaping. Plans call for a community room with a kitchen, as well as a computer room, fitness room, laundry room and central outdoor open space.
Following an open RFP process, in 2020 the city selected WHCHC’s development proposal for the city-owned property in the Old Las Palmas neighborhood. The Palm Springs City Council unanimously approved the project the following year and included a significant city investment.
Aloe Palm Canyon was designed by 64North.
