Actor Plans Another Tribute Surf to Martin Luther King at Lunada Bay

Christopher Taloa said he was harassed and attacked by the Lunada Bay Boys last year when he attempted to honor the civil rights leader.

PALOS VERDES ESTATE, CA -- Actor and former professional bodyboarder, Christopher Taloa, will again attempt to honor Martin Luther King Jr. by surfing at Lunada Bay, where a surf gang has allegedly been harassing and stopping non-locals from surfing there, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Last year, Taloa said he was harassed, racially taunted and attacked by the Lunada Bay Boys when he wanted to honor the slain civil rights leader, the Times reported.

This year, with the dismantling of the alleged surf gang's fort and a crackdown by the city, the 43-year-old actor is asking others to join him in protesting racism and the localism that prevented others from surfing at Lunada Bay, according to the Times.

“We are going out there to enjoy the place. Some people may paddle out. Some might just enjoy the beach,” Taloa told the Times. “We will celebrate the fact that we can finally do this event in a place where we always should have been able to do it.”
