All beaches in Rancho Palos Verdes will be closed today because of the tsunami advisory.

A massive 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit Japan on Friday and as a result, the National Weather Service issued a tsunami advisory for the coast of Los Angeles County early Friday.

Wave heights are expected to reach between two and three feet along the Southern California coast from Santa Barbara to Long Beach, according to the National Weather Service.

The larger waves could continue for several hours after initial wave arrival, which was predicted to be about 8:30 a.m. Friday.

The city is recommending all people in the tsunami advisory coastal areas, which includes Rancho Palos Verdes, should move off the water and stay off the beach.

Closures include: Abalone Cove Shoreline Park, fisherman’s access/beach access at the Terranea Resort, beach access from Trump National Golf Course/Founders Park.
