Brews News: International Stout Day 2012
A weekly look at the craft beer scene and beer events in the South Bay of Los Angeles.

Thursday marked International Stout Day 2012, and with the cold and rainy weather, it was the perfect day to enjoy a stout.
Locally, there are a multitude of stouts on tap that can be enjoyed to celebrate the occasion including:
- Batch 100 Stout at Strand Brewing Co.
- Mad River Steelhead Extra Stout at Select Beer Store
- Hyperion's Stout from El Segundo Brewing Co.

Select Beer Store | Redondo Beach
On Sunday starting at noon, Select Beer will feature the rare and always sought-after Firestone Anniversary Ale on tap during a "Beer & Pie" event.

This year's limited release is the Firestone XVI, described by the Select Beer gurus as "a dark, rich, roasty barrel aged beer."
To complement the beers on tap, Select Beer will also be selling fresh made sweet and savory pies from I Heart Pies.
Also on tap will be Firestone's Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout, Union Jack IPA and Double Barrel Ale (a gold medal winner at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival).

Other Beer Events
4th Annual Savor the Flavor
Saturday, Nov. 10 | 6:30 p.m. | Four Points Sheraton LAX
Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach will host its fourth-annual "Savor the Flavor: A Beer and Spirits Experience" at the Four Points Sheraton off Century Boulevard near LAX.
Breweries attending the event include: The Brewery at Abigaile, Angle City Brewing, The Bruery, El Segundo Brewing, Fireman's Brew, Hangar 24, Heretic Brewing, Monkish Brewing, Sierra Nevada, Stone Brewing Company and Strand Brewing Company.
Tickets are $35 and include unlimited beer tasting, spirit tasting, appetizers, two raffle tickets and a take home mug. All proceeds directly benefit the charities of Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach.
For an additional $5, shuttle busses are available from Mira Costa High School's administrative parking lot and leave every hour starting at 6:00 p.m.
