At Tuesday night's RPV City Council meeting, , including $80,000 for a new Peninsula High Pool.

  • Its nice to see local RPV government run a tight enough financial budget so that they can actually help their residents and important local non profits in this economy, instead of raising taxes to bail itself out. Where are the other cities on the hill and why don't they help like RPV does? —

Residents commented specifically on before Tuesday's Council meeting:

  • laying off teachers, but yet you're putting in a new pool????? this is very upsetting indeed. —
  • Its school Bond money that is restricted and cannot be used to save teachers. Only for school infrastructure. You voted on it. Same for the city of RPV. The 80K from RPV comes from a special account that can only be used for infrastructure improvements. —
  • When a pool is used daily for 40 years there comes a point when it has to be redone. Hanging a no longer in service sign on the gate is not an option. Many children in this community use the pool to learn to swim, there are four swim teams and four water polo teams that use the pool. Our parents and community supporters have given millions to the Peninsula Education Foundation to save as many programs, teachers and counsellors as possible. In addition as the comment above notes the money being used would not save one teacher position, its school bond money and private donations. The new pool will serve our community for another 40 years!!! —

What do you think of the Council's approval of these grants?

Vanderlip legacy

Patch and its impact on Palos Verdes. One resident shared her story:

  • I was one of those teenagers that sneaked past the main gate about 1974. It was fun. Someone called the cops and (our) parent(s) got a phone call but nothing (happened). We just wanted to see the haunted house :) —
