Police Seek Witnesses to Crash at Crenshaw and PCH

The collision resulted in the closure of eastbound Pacific Coast Highway at Crenshaw Boulevard for several hours.

A 33-year-old possibly drunk male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Torrance on Friday and critically injured, police said. The collision resulted in the closure of eastbound Pacific Coast Highway from Crenshaw Boulevard for several hours.

A black Volkswagen Passat traveling eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway struck the pedestrian, who was walking southbound across Pacific Coast Highway outside the crosswalk at the intersection with Crenshaw Boulevard, said Lt. Stephen D'anjou of the Torrance Police Department Traffic and Special Events Division.

The man "sustained major injuries," D'anjou said, and was taken to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

"A preliminary investigation revealed that alcohol may be a factor in this collision and that the pedestrian may have been impaired," D'anjou said.

The crash occurred around noon. Eastbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were closed from Crenshaw Boulevard for about two hours during the investigation, D'anjou said.
