Gas Prices Show Steady Declines

Local gas prices fell by about a penny a day last week, with current prices in Palos Verdes dropping to $3.69 at some stations, according to GasBuddy.com and the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.875 per gallon, which is 5.6 cents lower than the week of Sept. 19, 6.1 cents higher than last month, and 90 cents higher than last year.

In San Diego, the price is $3.865, a decrease of 6.2 cents from the week of Sept. 19, 4.8 cents above last month, and 88 cents higher than last year.

On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.913, down 6.1 cents from the week of Sept. 19, 5.8 cents higher than a month ago, and 88 cents above last year.

In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.856, down a nickel from the week of Sept. 19, 7.3 cents higher than last month, and 89 cents more than last year.

“Gas prices in the western U.S. states have dropped, but more slowly than in other areas. Missouri and South Carolina now have averages below $3.20 a gallon, while Oregon and Washington averages are in the $3.80 range along with California,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring in a statement. “There are reports of some production issues locally, as well as the increased overseas selling of diesel, that have kept prices from falling more quickly in this area.”
