Legislators Seek FEMA Funding For Residents Impacted By Landslides
Government officials asked FEMA to provide resources, assistance and funding to residents on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — Legislators this week urged the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide resources, assistance and funding to residents impacted by landslides on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
On Oct. 21, Representative Ted Lieu led a joint letter with Senator Alex Padilla, Senator Laphonza Butler and Congress member Adam Schiff to ask Administrator Deanne Criswell to consider ways FEMA can help the community.
"Several of us have visited the landslide area and witnessed firsthand the devastating impact this issue has had on the community," the legislators said in the letter. "We ask that FEMA work to identify any assistance and funding, that can be made available, to the residents impacted by land movement on the Palos Verdes Peninsula."

In the letter, legislators said through FEMA's Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant, Rancho Palos Verdes would be able to better mitigate the crisis by eliminating excess moisture and reducing future ground movement.
Recently, Regional Administrator Bob Fenton visited the Peninsula and requested the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Geological Survey to provide technical assistance to the city as work is done to stabilize the land. Legislators believe additional assistance should be extended to ensure that a sense of safety is restored in the community.
