Man Dies While Surfing Off Palos Verdes Estates

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, CA -- A man died Wednesday while surfing off Palos Verdes Estates coast, police said.

The surfer, a man in his 50s, apparently was suffering some sort of medical emergency while surfing, Palos Estates Police said. He was found face down in the water off Bluff Cove by other surfers who brought him to shore and performed CPR on him while waiting for help to arrive.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, police said. A county fire department helicopter hoisted the man's body off the bluff to a coroner's van, police said.

The man's cause of death was unknown, police said.
