Monday Essentials: Happy Almost Thanksgivukah!

Here's what to look forward to this week in Palos Verdes.

Happy Monday! Here are five things Palos Verdes residents should know this week:

  1. The eight-day Jewish holiday celebration of Chanukah begins at sundown on Wednesday. Jews light candles every night during the holiday to celebrate the religious freedom won after a battle that liberated the ancient temple in Jerusalem. The holiday comes unusually early this year—it starts the day before Thanksgiving—and some have dubbed it “Thanksgivukah” as a result.
  2. If you’re driving over the holiday, remember to buckle up and don’t drink alcohol. The California Highway Patrol will engage in a Maximum Enforcement Period from 6 p.m. Wednesday through midnight Sunday. Last year, there were 44 people killed in collisions during the Thanksgiving holiday in California.
  3. If you’re headed to LAX this week, keep in mind that our airport is expected be the busiest in the nation over the 11-day Thanksgiving travel period. Travelers are advised to arrive two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights.
  4. Check out our weekly recap of the top blogs in Los Angeles County.
  5. Today's photo of the day was uploaded by Jennifer Arrow to Flickr's Creative Commons collection. Want to submit your own?
