PALOS VERDES, CA — The Peninsula Chapter of National Charity League hosted a successful annual Holiday Tea on December 8 in Palos Verdes Estates, with more than 600 participants and guests in attendance.

The Holiday Tea was hosted at the home of Lori O’Hern and her daughter Maggie. The event included three consecutive teas throughout the day, all with the theme Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice. Many of the chapter’s past presidents were in attendance, which "provided a wonderful bridge between past and present," the National Charity League Peninsula Chapter press release said.

In the National Charity League, mothers are called Patronesses and the daughters are called Ticktockers. All three teas were hosted by Ticktockers, who worked together among different age groups to host successful teas, the press release said. The event was formatted so both Ticktockers and Patronesses could participate in both sides of the "time-honored tradition," the Peninsula Chapter said.

"The annual tea is designed in a formal yet festive setting where the Ticktockers learn the important life skills of etiquette, greeting, and conversing with guests as they serve beverages, tea sandwiches, and desserts," the Peninsula Chapter said. "Learning social skills in a live setting like this is a rarity in today’s fast-paced digital world. Through events like this Ticktockers gain the confidence needed to authentically connect with others, which will help them in their future careers and personal lives."

Social Graces Tea Chair LeeAnne Pinner and Social Graces Co-Chair Diana Behrendsen oversaw this year's event.

Pianists Natalia Hudson and Gaynor Trammer performed at the Holiday Tea thanks to three anonymous donors, creating a new tradition of live music with this year's event.

"Our goal this year was to honor the time-tested traditions that NCL and our chapter work hard to maintain while embracing change," Chapter President Christine Pearson said. "To accomplish this, we wanted the Ticktockers to not only understand and embody our traditions but to also allow them to fully participate in the process and add their personal statement to important elements of the event to make it theirs. This year’s theme for our chapter is 'Create an Impact.' I believe this year’s Tea accomplished this. I’m so proud how hard our members worked together to make this year’s event a success.”
