Photo of the Day: Spyhopping Orcas

Patch wants to show off your photos from around the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Today's photo was taken last week off the coast of the South Bay by researcher Alisa Schulman-Janiger of the American Cetacean Society Los Angeles chapter. Schulman-Janiger is the director of the local Gray Whale Census and Behavioral Project and an orca expert.

The photo shows the female orca named CA51 (left) taking a peek of what's above the water with her 3-year-old daughter, Comet. CA51 and her family have visited the South Bay multiple times over the past few years.

Help us showcase the Palos Verdes community with your photos! Whether it's a photo of a spectacular sunset off the Palos Verdes coast, a picture of the ubiquitous wildlife, or one of something interesting you saw in town, Palos Verdes Patch wants to show off your best shots. Send us what you've got and it might be published on the site.
