Poll: Should Bikers Have More Access to Nature Preserve Trails?

Some worry mountain bikers will harm natural habitat in the local preserve. What do you think? Take our poll below.

Facing trail restrictions at the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve, particularly at Portuguese Bend, some mountain bikers are worried they'll soon lose more access, according to an Easy Reader report.

Some are concerned bikers will harm the natural habitat many have worked hard to preserve.

“We’re trying to work toward providing a safe haven and refuge for these species and also great access for people,” said Andrea Vona, executive director, in the report.

Al Sattler, chairman of the South Bay and PV regional Sierra Club, said in the Easy Reader report that the local chapter of the Sierra Club "opposes efforts to open more trails to bikes."

"The group isn’t against mountain biking. We just feel it should be done in appropriate areas,” Sattler said in the report. “There’s a balance between use and restoration because people have to get to see the habitat areas to appreciate and value them. At the same time, you can’t love it to death.”
