Poll: What Do You Think of Proposed Bike Lane Project in RHE?

The Rolling Hills Estates $2.8-million project would create 1.3 miles of bike lanes along Palos Verdes Drive North between Crenshaw Boulevard and western city limits.

Recent discussions about a proposed bike lane project in Rolling Hills Estates have left some cyclists excited about the new lanes and other residents concerned about safety and potential problems for equestrians, among other issues.

The $2.8-million project would create 1.3 miles of bike lanes along Palos Verdes Drive North between Crenshaw Boulevard and western city limits. The 5-foot wide lanes would run in both directions along the stretch of road.

The project is funded with more than $2 million in federal Metro Call for Projects funds and $544,580 in state Safe Routes to School grant funds. More than $199,836 comes from Proposition C transportation funds and Traffic Impact Fees.

A proposed project schedule presented at a Feb. 14 Rolling Hills Estates City Council meeting listed a completion date of December 2013.
