This Popular Coffee Chain May Soon Open Its First South Bay Location

South Bay residents would no longer have to travel to East Los Angeles or Orange County to get their fill of Dutch Bros Coffee.

CARSON, CA — Dutch Bros Coffee may soon be opening its first South Bay location.

Carson officials announced on the city's website in July that the development of a Dutch Bros Coffee in the self-proclaimed "Jewel of the South Bay" had been approved.

The new Dutch Bros Coffee would be located at 20377 Avalon Blvd. A former Pizza Hut is currently situated at the location, but it would be demolished to make way for a new 1,025-square-foot building that would house the coffee chain's new location.

New landscaping, a parking area and other site improvements would need to be implemented, according to a notice of action by Carson's community development director.

It's unclear exactly when the new Dutch Bros Coffee will open. A spokesperson with Carson's Planning Commission did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the project.

Dutch Bros Coffee first started as a pushcart business, selling its caffeinated drinks along the railroad tracks in Downtown Grants Pass in Oregon, according to the company's website. Since then, the coffee shop, with its recognizable windmill logo, has grown to more than 1,000 locations across 19 states.

The closest locations to the South Bay include Baldwin Park, Covina and La Mirada, Westminster and Fountain Valley.

The new coffee shop would become one of many new ventures revitalizing Carson's business scene. Most recently, a new In-N-Out opened at the mall across the street from where the new Dutch Bros Coffee is expected to open. Rascals Teriyaki Grill also recently opened along Carson Street.

Other businesses, such as Teofilo, a Filipino coffee shop located near Avalon Boulevard and Carson Street, have brought more diversity to the city's caffeine game.
