PVPUSD, PVFA Reach Tentative Contract Agreement for Teachers

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District and the Palos Verdes Faculty Association reached a tentative agreement Tuesday for a two-year contract.

So far, the teachers have been working without a contract for the 2013-2014 school year, and last Friday, teachers instituted an "action plan." As part of the plan, the teachers would not host after-school activities, supervise club meetings, and keep classrooms open at lunch, among other actions.

The action plan was suspended Tuesday after the tentative agreement was reached, according to a notice posted on the PVFA website.

The agreement is for 2013-2015, and calls for a 2 percent raise retroactive to July 1; a $5 per hour increase in the contract hourly rate; a $25 per night outdoor education duty increase to $175 per night; 185 work days on the calendar and salary schedule; language capping class sizes for transitional kindergarten through third grade to 26 students; and more. 

The agreement also calls for a 5 percent increase to medical benefits Jan. 1, 2014.

Teachers will vote next week on whether to ratify the agreement.
