Rancho Palos Verdes One of Best Places to Raise Family: Wallet Hub

The study ranked 240 cities in California based on categories such as "Family Life and Fun," "Education, Health and Safety," among others.

PALOS VERDES, CA — Rancho Palos Verdes was ranked as one of the top cities in California to raise a family, according to Wallet Hub.

In a study released Tuesday, which ranked 240 cities in California based on categories such "Family Life and Fun," "Education, Health and Safety," "Affordability" and "Socioeconomic Environment," Rancho Palos Verdes was ranked 37th over all.

The city ranked third in terms education/health/safety, 55th in affordability and fifth in socioeconomic environment. Other South Bay cities in the rankings were Manhattan Beach at 11th and Redondo Beach at 40th.

The city of Los Angeles was ranked 203rd.

Among other things, the Family Life and Fun category includes the number of attractions and number of playgrounds per capita. Education, Health and Safety involved school quality, high school graduation rates, air quality and per-capita crime. Affordability compared median family income to housing prices and cost-of-living.

Some of the Socioeconomic Environment statistics were divorce rates, percentage of families living below the poverty line and the unemployment rate, according to WalletHub.
