Rancho Palos Verdes Residents Face Steep Fines For Illegal Fireworks
The city is fining as much as $7500 for any type of illegal firework.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — Rancho Palos Verdes residents caught with any kind of fireworks could be fined as much as $7,500, per a new ordinance approved in May that increased fines. Because Cal Fire has designated the entire city as a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, it is taking a zero-tolerance approach to anything that can spark a fire. Fireworks are also known to cause stress and trauma to pets.
All four peninsula cities have banned every type of firework, including “safe and sane” fireworks that do not fly or explode, smoke bombs, or smoke sticks. In May, Rancho Palos Verdes raised fines for first-time offenders from a misdemeanor $500 to $1000. Second-time offenders will be fined $5,000, and third and subsequent offenses will be fined $7,500.
Anyone who witnesses firework violations can call the Lomita Sheriff’s Station at 310-539-1661.
