Smoke Advisory Issued In Palos Verdes Due To Multiple Nearby Fires

PALOS VERDES, CA — As the nearby Bridge, Line, Airport and Roblar fires blaze nearby, health officials warned Palos Verdes residents about unhealthy air quality caused by smoke.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the fires burning in multiple regions have caused unhealthy air quality in multiple areas in the county. Wildfire smoke is a mixture of small particles, gases and water vapor and can pose health risks.

The small particles can cause burning eyes, runny nose, scratchy throat, headaches and illnesses like bronchitis. Children, the elderly and those with respiratory or heart conditions may experience difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing, fatigue or chest pain.

“It is difficult to tell where ash or soot from a fire will go, or how winds will affect the level of particles in the air, so everyone be aware of the air quality in your area, make plans, and take actions accordingly to safeguard your and your family’s health," said Muntu Davis, MD, MPH, Health Officer for Los Angeles County.

Davis urged residents to limit outdoor exposure and limit physical exertion in areas where there is visible smoke or the smell of smoke.

On Tuesday, the air quality in Palos Verdes was classified as moderate. The advisory will remain in effect through 11:59 p.m., officials said.
