SoCalGas Cuts Service For More Residents In Landslide Area

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — SoCalGas will shut off natural gas service for more residents in the Portuguese Bend landslide area due to additional land movement and unsafe conditions, the utility service announced Thursday.

Starting Friday, 29 additional homes in the Seaview area and 25 homes in Portuguese Bend Beach Club will have their gas service discontinued indefinitely at approximately 3 p.m.

Based on a sudden gas line break on Exultant Drive in Seaview on Aug. 30, there is no way to safely continue service to 16 homes on Admirable Drive, eight homes on Dauntless Drive and five homes on Palos Verdes Drive.

"Land movement continues to impact the gas line on Palos Verdes Drive South, which has necessitated the discontinuation of gas service to homes located there," SoCalGas said in a statement.

At this time, SoCalGas does not know when it will be safe to restore services to residents in these communities.

SoCalGas discouraged residents who have had their service cut off from attempting to restore service or connect to alternative fuels like propane to natural gas meters because it is unsafe.

"We understand this situation remains difficult and uncertain for many in the community," SoCalGas said.
