TORRANCE, CA — A 31-year-old Carson woman has pleaded guilty to stealing dozens of checks and credit cards and then selling them while working as a mail carrier for a South Bay Post Office, according to federal prosecutors.

Mary Ann Magdamit, who has been in federal custody since July 1, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, according to the United States Attorney's Office.

Federal prosecutors say Magdamit was working as a letter carrier for the Torrance Main Post Office when she began stealing checks, debit cards, and credit cards from the mail. She'd then activate the stolen cards, make purchases with them or sell them to other people, according to authorities.

The 31-year-old flaunted her crimes on social media, according to federal prosecutors, posting her purchases, vacations and posing with stacks of hundred-dollar bills.

"(Magdamit) admitted to selling credit cards to others, but did not name them," federal agents said in court documents obtained by Patch. "She explained she met up with one individual to sell them cards and said she is often paid around $500 when she completes a sale."

In December 2024, law enforcement personnel served a warrant at Magdamit's apartment and found 133 stolen credit and debit cards, 16 U.S. Treasury checks, and a loaded ghost gun, according to federal prosecutors. Authorities also found evidence that she had used the stolen cards to make purchases for luxury goods, including a Rolex, and to take trips to Turks and Caicos and Aruba, federal prosecutors said.

"I asked (Magdamit) if she ever stole checks from the mail, and she said if she took checks, she would look for checks of higher dollar amounts to take," federal agents wrote in a complaint document. "She also could not recall how long she’d been stealing from the mail, and did not know if any of the individuals she was selling stolen mail to were also working with other Postal Service employees."

Despite federal agents investigating her, Magdamit continued to use stolen credit cards to buy items, according to federal prosecutors. A second search of her home revealed more stolen cards, authorities said.

As part of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors, the 31-year-old will forfeit the Rolex and other luxury items she bought with the stolen cards.

Magdamit will be sentenced on Oct. 27 and faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison, according to authorities.
