Spend Summer in the Park

Summer has arrived—in celebration of the sunshine, here are four popular parks in the South Bay to barbecue, go for a jog, or just read a book and enjoy the ocean breeze.

Abalone Cove Shoreline Park

The serves as a refuge for marine and animal life, as it includes tidepools, walking trails, picnic tables, two beaches and a bluff with an ocean view.

  • Pro: Enjoy the natural environment of our South Bay community while walking the trails of this park.
  • Con: Parking costs $5 per car and $15 per bus.

Hermosa Beach's South Park

The  includes a small playground, picnic tables and some shade from trees. Many Hermosa Beach neighbors walk their dogs in the park

  • Pro: The large open space at the park serves well for pick-up flag football or sunbathing.
  • Con: Parking in the area is limited.

Manhattan Beach's Sand Dune Park

The Sand Dune park at 33rd Street and Bell Avenue in Manhattan Beach is named after its 100-foot high sand dunes, and includes a nature trail, play area for children and a merry-go-round.

  • Pro: Try running up the sand dunes, they offer a great work out...
  • Con: But you have to make a reservation to use them.

Redondo Beach's Dominguez Park

The not only offers fun for your pooch with a small dog park but also plenty of trees to read under, picnic tables, Heritage Court, and a Little League field.

  • Pro: As the dog park has become a popular part of the community, it's a great place not only for your dog to make friends but also for you to meet your neighbors.
  • Con: Since a lot of dogs visit the area, be careful not to step in dog waste.
