Surf Forecast: High Rip Currents Expected Through Weekend

The National Weather Service issues a forecast for surfers and others planning to visit local beaches this weekend.

Swimmers and surfers in Los Angeles County should expect dangerous water conditions at local coasts throughout the weekend after the National Weather Service issued a "high rip current risk" Saturday.

The NWS predicted surf height of 1-3 feet with high rip current potential.

"Very strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions are expected," according to a weather service surf forecast.

The service expects "little change" on Sunday.

It warned that strong rip currents are "always a possibility" on local coasts.

"Due to highly varied coastal topography, dangerous rip currents are always a possibility along the Southern California coasts, and swimmers are urged to use caution at all times," Saturday's NWS statement said.
