WATCH: Protesters Carve Message On Trump Golf Course In Rancho Palos Verdes

The group said the vandalism was a response to the Trump administration's "blatant disregard for the environment."

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — A group of environmental activists vandalized the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes on Sunday, carving a message into the grass near the fifth hole, it was reported Monday.

The group, which calls itself an "anonymous environmental activist collective," sent the Washington Post a video showing four people in dark clothes scaling a fence and using gardening tools to carve 6-foot-tall letters in the grass reading: "NO MORE TIGERS. NO MORE WOODS."

The group sent a statement to the newspaper explaining the vandalism was a response to President Trump's administration's "blatant disregard for the environment."

The message was carved into the grass using gardening tools, a member of the group told the Post. It took less than an hour to carve the message, the person said.

The golf club was opened in 2000 on what was previously farmland. According to its website, the club said it is committed to "protecting the environmentally sensitive habitat that plays host to several protected plant species and the endangered Coastal California Gnatcatcher (a small migratory bird).”

Several environmental agencies, including the California Department of Fish and Game, were involved in establishing guidelines for the course to protect endangered species, the website said.

Both the golf course and the Trump Organization in New York declined to comment on the vandalism.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said it received a call about possible vandalism at the course Sunday morning, but the course canceled the call before deputies arrived at the scene.

The Lomita Sheriff's Station went to the club to investigate the vandalism around 8 a.m. Monday. The damage was estimated at $20,000, the department said.

The department said it was investigating whether the incident was an act of vandalism or something else, the Los Angeles Times reported.

This was the not the first time one of the president's businesses has been targeted by vandals. Last October, a group of activists spray-painted the phrase "Black Lives Matter" at the brand-new Trump Hotel in Washington, D.C., during a demonstration, according to Politico.

The president himself has been a target of scathing humor on the late-night comedy shows, such as "Saturday Night Live," and by activists since he was a candidate.

The artist collective, known as INDECLINE, displayed a naked statue of the then-candidate in several cities, including Los Angeles, in August 2016.

The project was called "The Emperor Has No Balls," a play on the short story, "The Emperor Has No Clothes." The group said it was supposed to be unflattering and presented in the most humiliating way.
