Wayfarers Chapel To Be Torn Down And Stored: Report
Crews will start to dismantle the historic Wayfarers Chapel within the month, chapel officials said.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — The iconic Wayfarers Chapel will be dismantled and salvageable parts will be stored after city officials witnessed extensive damage to the building and the grounds, according to reports,
According to a report from ABC 7, Ranch Palos Verdes city officials red-tagged the administrative office building. The chapel's board of directors told ABC 7 that they are looking at spots to rebuild.
"We are trying to figure out a way to acquire property that is stable in the area that has a similar view that we have here since the ocean view and the surroundings are a big part of what has made this jewel on the peninsula what it is," Executive Director Daniel Burchett told ABC 7.

The chapel was closed to the public in February due to the accelerated movement in the Portuguese Bend landslide complex that caused structural damage to the national landmark. At the site now, significant damage in the parking lot, stonework and walkway are evident but the structure holding the cross up is still intact.
Crews will begin taking the chapel apart within the next month, Burchett told ABC 7. There is no official timeline for the historic chapel's reopening, but Burchett said it could be five years away.
