Week in Review: High School Playoffs and Local Arrests

CIF section playoffs begin this week and separate residents are arrested for alleged medicare fraud and hate crimes.

The playoffs begin

Local hate crimes suspect arrested

A Rancho Palos Verdes man was charged with felony hate crimes for allegedly vandalizing Ripples nightclub in Belmont Shore and The Center serving Long Beach's gay and lesbian population.

Medicare fraud 

A local man was indicted for alleged Medicare fraud. He was one of six in the Los Angeles area indicted for submitting nearly $30 million in fraudulent bills to Medicare.

Continued charter city debates

Residents debated the city's proposed charter scheduled to appear on the March 8 ballots. This time, members of RPV's Council of Homeowners Associations hosted the debate. A presentation on the proposed charter city was held the same night at Point Vicente Interpretive Center. 

Borders local store set to close

The book retailer plans to close its Rolling Hills Estates location. The planned closure is among others in the Southern California area.
